GEM, Because Every Person is a GEM. GEM offers two levels of practical computer classes. Participants learn marketable job skills to improve their quality of life. These classes are tailored to address the cultural and linguistic needs of participants to ensure they receive the major benefit. A glimpse into the student's determination and impact of HWOA's work.
Reaching for the American Dream
RAD ( Reaching for the American Dream) HWOA promotes Citizenship and civic engagement. RAD provides assistance in the naturalization process. This year HWOA received Recognition and Partial Accreditation form the Bureau of Immigration Appeals to provide one on one assistance to legal permanent residents who are ready to begin the process of naturalization. Voter registration is one of HWOA's everyday activities as it is an essential aspect to achieve community integration. Individually or in collaboration with other agencies HWOA works to achieve community integration.
HWOA Scholarship
One of the main pillars of HWOA's work is our support for higher education. HWOA diligently to encourage and financially support Hispanic students to pursue higher education. So far, 588 individuals have benefited from HWOA's financial assistance. Over 90% of the recipients have been the first in their families to attend an educational institution beyond high school. HWOA works with parents and students in managing the education system as they search for their right opportunity: trade or technical careers, two or four year colleges. Allowing parents and students to find their own path for self-fulfillment and swell being.
HWOA Community Excellence Award Recipients
This year HWOA awarded the Community Excellence Award to The Economic Opportunity Agency.
In the above images, we can observe the mark HWOA is leaving in our community. This year, HWOA was selected as the first community organization to set up a display at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. HWOA's Executive Director was inducted as one f the top 100 Women of Impact and invited to the Governor's Mansion. HWOA also collaborated with multiple community organizations to provide other workshops in the community.
